ABOUT THE CD:

My cd "...40.000 miles ago!”was recorded in november 2004 in Sarteano (Si) live in studio with some very fine musicians: On drums we have Gianluca Meconcelli, on bass Mr. Guido Pietrella, and on all keyboards Alessandro Cristofori, who also did the final mixing and mastering. The final result pleases me very much...there's a lot of different musical moods there, you'll here loud rock music, ballads, intimate acoustic songs etc.. Only two songs written by me since I don't consider myself a song-writer... AS FOR NOW!...

ABOUT THE TITLE:

Well, the title should have been “16 years!" or something like that, which stood for the time I lived in Italy and earned my living as a musician here. For several reasons however it happened that between the recording of the actual record and the final mixing/mastering time just flew away and 18 months had passed! ...in the mean time I played a lot of pubs, private parties, weddings ecc. all over Italy and drove about ...guess what?...40.000 miles in my car to get to those gigs!....so here you are....

ABOUT THE SONGS:

1 – BACK TO YOU   ( listen )

A favorite of mine, melodic, straightforward…

I’ve played this song a thousand times...can’t get enough of it!

2 – HUNGRY HEART   ( listen )

Bruce Springsteen...The Boss! I could’ve picked any song by this magnificent songwriter, but for now this one will do! ”everybody’s got a hungry heart”.....how true!

3 – NOTHING ELSE MATTERS  ( listen )

What can I say? A very involving song.....

Sounds pretty much as their version with the symphonic orchestra. I used my  acoustic Maton ‘The Messiah’ throughout the song and it makes the song sound ‘warmer’ I think....

4 – FREE ( listen )

This song, sort of country,  I wrote especially for this cd in about two hours. The band played the song twice and then we recorded it...first take.  The lyrics explain themselves!.. In the last verse you’ll here some names...’Mark’ stands for Mark Knopfler and ‘Regg’, ‘Frame’, Spud’, ‘Nuff’ are the nicknames of the original members of Status Quo:Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, John Coghlan and Alan Lancaster...

5 – LEAVING NEW YORK ( listen )

Wonderful melodic song by R.E.M.  I recorded this song just after it came out in Italy and was probably the first in Italy to play it live during my gigs. Most people didn’t even know this song yet! Anyway my cd came out, as you know, quite late so..that much for the surprise...!

6 – DE VRIJGEZEL+NARCOTIC ( listen )

Just a small verse from an old Dutch song to get to a song which is still a garanteed party-song! Makes the roof come down everytime in whatever place in Italy...

7 – ANGELS ( listen )

The first hit-record by Robbie Williams going solo...

Beautiful song to start off an amazing solo-career. One of my favourites...

8 – SULTANS OF SWING ( listen )

Imagine four very concentrated musicians who played  ‘Sultans Of Swing’, all improvised for about 12 minutes!!!...only I forgot to push ‘rec’...Well, I risked some serious lynching there by the band!...What you hear on the cd is ‘take 2’,....still not so bad i think!

9 – FLYING HIGH TONIGHT ( listen )

A song I wrote for the cd by the Inferno Band in 2001...

Let’s say it’s my first real song !

Ever heard ‘Johhny and Mary’ by Robert Palmer? You can consider this song a sequal, something like ’20 years later they meet again and.....

10 – FATHER AND SON ( listen )

A classic! Everybody who plays guitar knows this one next to ‘Wish you were here’ and ‘Knockin’ on heaven’s door’....and everyone who doesn’t play the guitar knows how to sing it!

11 – ROMEO&JULIET ( listen )

I recorded this at 02.00 am! I think this is a song that suits me....I like this intimate and stripped-down version...just me and my guitar.

12 – ONE FOR MY BABY ( listen )

If the previous song was at 02.00 am, this one was at 04.00 am! How come the song is not complete? Well, it happened that at the end of the session day we decided to prepare the microphone-settings for the old ‘saloon-piano’ so we could start straight away the next day with recordings... The tape was rolling, Alessandro started to play, I just started singing ... After hearing this short sound-check we all agreed that there was something special here, so we decided to share it with you!
